Last weekend my husband and I took a little weekend trip out to the peninsula. Our jobs have been really stressful lately and we wanted a nice weekend away to just relax. From Seattle it only takes about three hours to get out to the coast and to the Pacific Ocean. We had been talking about staying at Lake Quinault Lodge for a while now and I’m glad that we did. Our room was recently renovated which was really nice and we had a nice view of the lake. The lodge itself is very cozy with a huge wood burning fireplace and lots of large leather couches that other guests were reading and playing card games on.
We really lucked out on the weather. It definitely was very chilly but no rain or wind and the sun was out the whole weekend. Before we checked in at the lodge, we drove an extra 45 minutes out to Ruby Beach. We did a little hike down to the beach and explored around the various rock formations and caves. I definitely recommend the extra drive to check the beach out.
By the time we made it to the lodge and checked in we were ready for dinner. I had read some reviews online about the restaurant at the lodge and they weren’t that great. And there really was only one other restaurant option in the area which is one mile up the lake, Salmon House Restaurant, and it was delicious! They were very accommodating about my gluten restrictions and you can’t beat the view. Nathan I both had different salmon dishes and were both very pleased with our meals.
On Sunday morning we went for a 2.5 mile hike on one of the many trails in the Olympic National Park. The trail started just across the street from where we were staying. It was freezing and there was frost everywhere, but it was still very beautiful and nice to be out in nature. There was even a really nice waterfall on our hike, which was definitely an added bonus. If you’re looking for a weekend getaway in the Pacific Northwest, I would definitely recommend driving out to the peninsula and visiting all the places that we did, you won’t regret it!
