Hurricane Odile = Vacation Reallocation

Well, the title of this post is a bit more dramatic than what actually ended up happening… but the original vacation that my husband I had planned was completely derailed by Hurricane Odile.

While getting ready to leave for work on Monday, September 15 I turned on the news and was shocked by what I saw in Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur. The hurricane had hit the coast overnight and had already caused severe damage. We were planning to fly into Cabo on Saturday, September 20.

By Monday afternoon it became quite obvious that we weren’t going to Mexico anytime soon. My husband was actually able to speak with someone at the resort, he was told that no one would be able to come to the resort in the forseeable future due to all the damage from the hurricane. Also the airport was closed and still remains closed. We were totally disappointed but I am just so thankful that we weren’t already in Cabo at the time the hurricane hit as I can’t imagine how terrifying it must have been.

On Monday night, my husband and I decided that since we had both gotten the time off from work that we still wanted to go on vacation. We looked at several different cities and discussed some options, ultimately deciding on Las Vegas!

This ended up being a great decision and a wonderful vacation. We stayed at the Signature Suites at MGM Grand and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Signature Suites side of the hotel offers kitchenettes in their rooms which made for healither and more budget friendly food options during our week long stay. This also made eating gluten-free much easier as well, but more on that in my next post.

Our week was spent exploring the city (my husband had been before, but I had not), lounging by several different pools, enjoying eating out and seeing two fantastic shows (The Beetles LOVE and Penn & Teller). I would highlighly recommend seeing both shows if you’re in Las Vegas in the near future.

Even though our vacation wans’t what we had orignally planned, it turned out to be really relaxing and just what we needed.
